Dear Brothers and Sisters………….
My prayers and best wishes go out to all mothers this Mother’s Day weekend; they are indeed models for us of the love of God. I can honestly say that my own mother was the very source of my coming to believe in the God who loves unconditionally. She, together with my father, always gave to us, their six children, that same unconditional love that mirrors the God of the universe. This weekend, take time to thank your own mothers for their giving you life and teaching you about the love of God by witness. These thoughts are expressed beautifully in the sonnet by Elizabeth Barrett Browning: “The face of all the world is changed, I think,
Since first I heard the footsteps of thy soul
Move still, oh, still beside me; as they stole
Betwixt me and the dreadful outer brink
Of obvious death, where I who thought to sink
Was caught up into love and taught the whole
Of life in a new rhythm.”
